Most people think because we live a totally "wholistic" lifestyle and
have a holistic online business, that we would
never
use Western medicine's cancer treatment. Fortunately, we have never had
to make that decision for ourselves but have confronted that decision
twice with our own pets and many clients and their pets. The following is not
presented as a cure for cancer but our own personal integrative
wholistic approach to cancer. We believe for the best possible chance
for success with any cancerous condition, one must use whatever works
for that individual's body and this may change as the body progresses
through the healing process. Here are two examples.
Our client was a 56-year old former smoker, with a family history of
lung cancer. They already had moderate
emphysema. They were subsequently diagnosed with primary squamous cell
carcinoma of their right lung (Stage 4) with bone metastasis (#8 right
rib bone) and given 3-6 months to live. X-rays showed an irregular
nodule/mass in the right lung and chronic mild interstitial prominence.
Biopsy showed poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma at 10%
positive. Client chose to get systemic chemoimmunotherapy with
Carboplatin AUC5 and Abraxane, in addition to Keytruda (KEYTRUDA is a
type of immunotherapy that works by blocking the PD-1 pathway to help
prevent cancer cells from hiding. KEYTRUDA helps the immune system do
what it was meant to do: detect and fight cancer cells.) Unfortunately,
her first doctor gave her a "lethal" chemotherapy dose with horrible
results. Client switched oncologists and continued only on the Keytruda
therapy. Client remained active and used an inhaler when needed. Client
started BioSuperfood-f3
about 9 months after beginning chemotherapy. One month after starting
BioSuperfood-f3 client was up to 7 caps/day. They felt good, with lots
of energy, no sickness during the winter. PET scan now showed cancer in
#8 rib bone completely gone. Major tumor in right lung is shrinking. PET
scan four months later showed she was now cancer-free.
Julius, feline adopted at age 3, had an impish, feisty personality and
tried to rule the whole house even though
he
was the third feline addition, plus one canine. At age 10 he started
vomiting frequently, so we stopped his raw food diet and switched to
canned food. We experimented with many canned foods before finding a
prescription food that he could tolerate. In addition to Visbiome (probiotic),
B12 shots, Cerenia (vomiting), Drontal (dewormer), Mirtazapine (appetite
stimulant), metronidazole (diarrhea) and SubQ fluids prescribed by our
holistic vet, we continued to give him our holistic
BioPreparation-F3+,
PSP and CBD products and do
acupuncture. After all those failed to help, our holistic vet added
Prednisolone. After the Prednisolone failed to stop his diarrhea and
weight loss, our vet referred us to an internal medicine specialist who
suggested a chemotherapy drug, Chlorambucil, which reduces inflammation
and can help, whether the problem is irritable bowel disease or GI
lymphoma (which is a continuum in cats). Since nothing else had helped
and Julius was starting to "circle the drain", in the words of our vet,
we decided to give it a try.
Chlorambucil is an older immune system suppressant, anti-cancer drug,
with an off-label usage for animals. It is our understanding that
Chlorambucil has a long history of use, its side effects are well known,
manageable and this drug does not decimate the body's immune system like
stronger chemotherapy drugs do. It is well tolerated by cats. After less
than a month on Chlorambucil, Julius' diarrhea stopped, his condition
stabilized, and he started to gain weight. As Julius improved, we
focused on feeding him more, multiple times per day, but neglected to
add all his holistic products that we were giving (namely
BioPreparation-F3+
and Cellular
PSP).
After 2½ years on Chlorambucil, his condition worsened. He began
vomiting frequently and didn't want to eat anything. Ultrasound showed
that he had a blockage in his intestines and a mass on his kidney. His
irritable bowel disease or small cell GI lymphoma had progressed to
large cell GI lymphoma, which is difficult to treat and rapidly fatal in
cats. We tried a shot of Elspar, a stronger chemo drug, which had no
effect. It was obvious at this point he did not have enough life energy
or the will to continue, so we made the difficult decision to do in-home
euthanasia at age 13.
Looking back on his 3-year journey with lymphoma here are the stages we
took:
-
Rather than take the Western medicine approach of fighting to
destroy all the cancer cells with big guns (strong drugs), we chose
an integrative approach by working with the body's own immune system
and nutrition first.
-
When that did not work, we added conventional veterinary drugs.
-
When those drugs also failed to work, we added a mild chemotherapy
drug which rapidly stopped his diarrhea and allowed him to gain
weight. He would have died at that point if we had not been willing
to try the chemo drug.
-
His condition worsened 2½ years later, so we said goodbye to Julius
at age 13.
We got almost 3 extra years with Julius, with many holistic and
conventional veterinary lessons learned, by using an integrative cancer
approach. As holistic
consultants/coaches, we learned never to say "never" to
chemotherapy. At each stage of his condition, we evaluated what had
worked, what had not worked and added any option (both holistic and
conventional) that made sense to try, that did not destroy his immune
system or quality of life.
We hope you never have to confront these difficult decisions for
yourself or your pet. If you want to be
holistically proactive, rather than medically reactive, consider
the 20+ years of successful
cancer in animals research Dr Michael Kiriac did, his
experimental results on humans at Chernobyl
and his eliminating the
pancreatic
cancer epidemic in his own family. BioPreparation for pets and
BioSuperfood for people are Nature's vitamin chest in a capsule,
containing over 5,000 individual nutrients including abundant
antioxidants (such as alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, gamma-carotene,
lycopene, zeaxanthin, lutein, beta-cryptoxanthin, phycocyanin,
xanthophylis, astaxanthin and more) which research has shown to have
nutritional anti-cancer benefits. Do not wait for
symptoms to show up or blow up.
