Being over 65, I continue to have regular Lipid Panels run to check my cholesterol. My total cholesterol (reference level 100-199) has been in a downward trend ever since 2015:

2015 = 194 mg/dL
2018 = 189 mg/dL
2019 = 178 mg/dL

My bad cholesterol (LDL, reference level 0-99) went down:

2015 = 134 mg/dL
2018 = 122 mg/dL
2019 = 113 mg/dL

My good cholesterol (HDL, reference level >39) actually went down too:

2015 = 46 mg/dL
2018 = 38 mg/dL
2019 = 36 mg/dL

I attribute my relatively good numbers for a senior to the following:

Oriental heritage
Eating a holistic diet ever since I was born (65+ years ago)
Eating a gluten-free, dairy-free (cow and goat milk), soy-free and GMO-free diet
Eating mostly grass-fed meats and wild caught seafood (non-farm raised)
Eating very little processed foods
Eating no fast-foods and limited eating at restaurants
Eliminating chocolate (yes, even dark chocolate)
Cooking at home from scratch
Walking 5-7 days per week

My numbers in 2018 were measured by my HMO medical doctor (M.D.). According to the HMO's calculation, I have a 10.2% cardiovascular risk, with anything over 10% considered high. Considering I already have symptoms 7-10 above, as I continue to recover from my concussion (mTBI), I decided against taking statin medications and sought another opinion from my osteopathic physician (D.O.) for a statin drug alternative.
