This month we highlight the Raindrop Technique as a powerful, non-invasive
tool for assisting the body in maintaining the proper structural and electrical
alignment in the spine. The Raindrop Technique integrates Vita Flex massage with
the power of essential oils. Recent scientific research shows that
microorganisms lodged near the spinal cord can contribute to spinal deformities.
Since essential oils are immune enhancing and support the body’s natural
defenses, this technique creates an environment that’s hostile to these
microorganisms. A sequence of single oils and oil blends (10 total) are
dispensed like raindrops on the back and then massaged along the spine and back
muscles. The session is extremely relaxing. This technique detoxifies the entire
body, especially from petrochemicals. Although the entire process takes about
one hour, the profound effects can last up to one week after the treatment. Once
the body is back in balance, optimum health can be restored.

According to Veterinary Pet Insurance, "The Nation's #1 Pet Medical Insurance
Plan", nearly half of all dogs and cats will develop some form of cancer during
their lifetime. (See http://www.petinsurance.com). They state that "dogs and
cats are three times more likely than people to contract cancer, and 45 percent
of dogs die from it". What is causing this high incidence of cancer? Is it just
that pets are living longer due to medical advances? Or are there other factors
at work?
Many experts in the holistic health field feel that the high incidence of cancer
in our pets is caused not just by longer lives but other factors such as poor
breeding practices, over vaccination and the diet we feed our pets. Despite the
glowing commercials by pet food companies showing healthy animals bouncing
around, much commercial pet food is not healthy for our pets. The pet food
industry was developed as a way to handle the refuse from human food processing
that was not fit for human consumption. Rather than throwing out this garbage,
it could be packaged into pet food and sold for profit.
What is found in pet food that is not fit for human (or pet) consumption? Pet
food often includes "4D" meat, which means animals that are dying, dead,
diseased or disabled. Also, meat byproducts rather than whole meat is often
used. Byproducts includes feet, heads, beaks, hides, hooves and other animal
parts that may not be digestible. In addition to these animal products of
questionable nutritional value, dry kibble is high in carbohydrates, such as
grains, which are required to hold the kibble together. The pet food
manufacturer can count the protein content in both the byproducts and grains
towards the total protein value of the food, even if your pet cannot assimilate
it. Finally, the food may contain artificial preservatives, high levels of
pesticides or drugs and non-food fillers like cellulose (sawdust). Is it any
wonder that our animals get cancer eating this?
So, what can you feed your pet to keep it in optimal health? Most holistic vets
now recommend a raw food diet for both dogs and cats. Dogs and cats are
carnivores, designed to eat a diet high in raw meat and bones, with some
vegetable matter. The raw food provides the natural enzymes they need to digest
the food and raw bones act as natural toothbrushes. You don't see wolves or
lions roasting their meat on campfires and our pets are not designed to eat
cooked food either. It is now possible to buy pre-made raw food diets (frozen or
freeze-dried) at many natural pet stores if you don't have time to prepare it
yourself. The next best diet would be a super-premium canned food, with added
enzymes and supplements.
For dog owners who like the convenience of kibble or can't afford the time and
cost to feed an all-raw or canned diet, Optimum Choices offers a super-premium
dog kibble from Prosperous Pet Products that contains human-grade whole meat as
the first ingredient and no artificial preservatives. You can find out more
information about this food here:

Holistic vets and nutrition experts state that cats should never be fed kibble,
even a super premium brand. Unlike dogs, cats are pure carnivores, who thrive on
a diet of 70-95% meat and cannot properly digest grains. Because of the amount
of carbohydrates required to hold kibble together, the highest protein content
in the best cat kibble on the market is just 40%. Cats were domesticated by the
Egyptians to protect their granaries from rodents, since cats would not eat the
grains. Yet today we feed our cats kibble that contain mostly grains. This makes
no sense nutritionally or biologically! Pet food companies have spent millions
of dollars in advertising to convince us that their kibble is healthy for our
cats when that is not true. Cats should ideally be fed a raw meat diet or
failing that, a canned diet with added enzymes. We can direct you to resources
about how to transition your cat to a healthier diet if it is addicted to
kibble.

For more information on what's really in pet food, read this book which was
written by a layman who spent years researching the pet food industry after her
pets were made very ill by pet food. You will learn that some pet food even
contains euthanized animals from animal shelters. (When I went to work for an
animal shelter recently, I was relieved to see that they have a crematorium so
their animals don't end up in pet food). The one thing we don't agree with in
this book is her caution against feeding raw foods to pets. Many animals have
regained their health after being put on raw food diets, whereas their health
was failing on a cooked food diet.
