Because of our low, mail order,
Internet prices and the amazing demand for our "wholistic"
consulting and
revolutionary products, we limit every inquiry (e-mail and
telephone) to 15 minutes in order to help all those in need.
After the first 15 minutes we charge our normal
consulting
fee. Please make use of all the free resources available 24
hours/day, by clicking on the buttons in the left-hand menu of
every product page (Ingredients, Usage, FAQ, etc.). Thank you in
advance.
The pet food recalls continue. The best "wholistic" suggestion to prevent
danger to your pet is — STOP feeding dry kibble dog food. In our
"wholistic" opinion, dry kibble dog food is the least nutritious form of
food to feed a carnivore. Furthermore, a majority of all pet food recalls is
with dry food. Canned food, freeze-dried food and raw food have a much lower
percentage of recalls.

We and our holistic veterinarians have always
practiced a minimal vaccination policy with our pets. While the
benefits of vaccinations in conventional veterinary medicine studies are
many, there is a growing body of evidence that over-vaccination may
cause future problems. We are glad to see the veterinary community agree
and to that end have commenced numerous studies to determine what is
holistically best for our companion dogs and cats.
Out of concern for the suspected causal
relationship between fibrosarcoma tumors and vaccine associated
sarcoma
and feline injection-site sarcoma (FISS), The World Small Animal
Veterinary Association (WSAVA) started a Vaccination Guidelines Group
(VGG) in 1996. The Feline Vaccination Guidelines (1998) was the outcome,
which included recommendations for fewer vaccines over the life of a
cat, while making separate categories for “core” and “non-core”
vaccines.
Core canine vaccines are distemper virus
(CDV), adenovirus (CAV), variants of parvovirus type 2
(CPV-2) and rabies when required by statute or endemic in the area.
Core feline vaccines are parvovirus (FPV),
calicivirus
(FCV), herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1)
and rabies when required by statute or endemic in the area.
Most dog and cat core vaccines have a
1-year minimum DOI (Duration of Immunity) with a recommendation for
annual vaccination by the manufacturer.
VGG recommends core vaccines should not be given any more
frequently than every three years after the 6- or 12-month booster
injection following the puppy/kitten series, because the
duration of immunity (DOI) is many years and may be up to the
lifetime of the pet.
A 3-year license for vaccines is a minimum
DOI for core vaccines. For most core vaccines the DOI are
likely to be considerably longer, if not lifelong, for the majority
of animals.
Killed rabies vaccines were initially
manufactured with a 1-year DOI. These same products now carry
a 3-year DOI in many places but laws may need to be modified
to
incorporate this change.
Vaccines (particularly adjuvanted FeLV and
rabies) should not be injected into the interscapular region
of cats because of the link to feline injection site sarcoma
(FISS).
Animals that are already diseased,
hyperthermic, stressed or under anesthesia should not be vaccinated.
To be clear, the WSAVA vaccination guidelines
are NOT a set of globally-applicable rules for vaccinating dogs and cats.
They are a set of current scientific advice and best practice
vaccination concepts. It is up to the individual nations, regional
governing bodies and individual treating veterinarians to determine what
is appropriate for your pet. Always check with your vet
regarding local laws for rabies, core and non-core vaccine requirements.
Also check
the acceptability of serological testing (titers) as an
alternative to routine core revaccination. The scientific evidence is
slowly catching up to our “wholistic” practice of giving our pets only
the minimum required vaccines, using titer testing and only giving
non-core vaccines no more frequently than is deemed absolutely
necessary.
