Due to their incredible effectiveness, holistic
practitioners have used flower essences on animals for
years. There are entire
books dedicated to the usage of Bach flower essences with animals. These
essences can help animals deal with change, travel and surgery as well as
recover from abuse and neglect. They are a powerful yet gentle tool to assist
with healing fear, shyness and other problem behaviors.
They are easy to give to pets—put several drops in the
water dish or on their food. Putting the drops directly in their mouth can be
difficult as they may lick the dropper and contaminate it. You can also give the
remedy externally by putting the drops on your hands, rubbing your hands
together briefly and then petting your animal or rubbing it on the pads of their
paws. In this way, you are also exposed to the remedy and can benefit from it.
Some common uses of Bach flower essences in animals include
the following:
Crab Apple—to clear out emotional or
physical toxins, for animals that tend to “pick up” stuff
Gentian—for restoring hope, coping with
long illness. I used this in my cat with chronic kidney disease
Heather—to treat animals that are needy
and clingy
Holly—to treat jealousy and encourage
ability to share
Scleranthus—to treat hormonal imbalances
or motion sickness
Wild Oat—to treat animals that have lost
their sense of purpose, are bored
Flower essences are totally non-toxic so if the wrong one
is used, it will just fail to do anything, rather than cause problems. Feel free
to experiment with them yourself if you like. If your animal doesn’t experience
benefit from essences, the reasons could include:
selection of the wrong remedy
not using the remedy long enough or
frequently enough
the cause includes a physical imbalance
that also requires treatment, such as poor nutrition
If you desire expert help, consult an experienced Bach
flower remedy practitioner who is skilled in determining which essences are
needed.
