Pet Food RecallsIn July, 2018, the FDA began an investigation into reports of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in pets eating certain foods, many "grain-free" labeled, that contained a high proportion of peas, lentils, other legume seeds (pulses), and/or potatoes in various forms (whole, flour, protein, etc.) as main ingredients. We have heard that some large pet food manufacturers and some traditional Western veterinarians are recommending pet parents avoid "BEG" diets — Boutique companies, Exotic ingredients or Grain-free diets. Before you panic, read our truly holistic perspective in previous newsletters:
The pet food recalls continue. The best "wholistic" suggestion to prevent danger to your pet is -- STOP feeding dry kibble dog food. In our "wholistic" opinion, dry kibble dog food is the least nutritious form of food to feed a carnivore. Furthermore, a majority of all pet food recalls is with dry food. Canned food, freeze-dried food and raw food have a much lower percentage of recalls. For the latest recalls, go to: Dog Food Recalls or FDA website To read more on our "wholistic" philosophy on pet food, go to the following links:

Healthy HeartFebruary is American Heart Month designed to raise awareness about healthy heart habits and encourage you and your loved ones to prevent heart disease. We all know one does not catch heart failure from a pathogen, like a cold or flu. A heart attack does not happen by accident, like a broken bone or pulled muscle. Heart conditions occur because of poor genetics, dietary and lifestyle choices. Medical studies have proven how healthy Omega 3 oils can be to the heart. Did you know almost all conventional grocery store meat has an inferior content of Omega oils? Conventional livestock is raised in Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) containing more than 1000 animal units (an animal unit is defined as an animal equivalent of 1000 pounds live weight and equates to 1000 head of beef cattle, 700 dairy cows, 2500 swine weighing more than 55 lbs., 125 thousand broiler chickens, or 82 thousand laying hens or pullets) confined on site for more than 45 days during the year. With the animals not being allowed to graze, limited in fresh air and sunshine, their meat has less concentration of the 'good fats that heal.' In a 2014 study, Carlo Leifert analyzed 196 papers on milk and 67 on meat and found distinct differences in their fatty acid composition and concentrations of essential minerals and antioxidants from pasture-raised, organic livestock. Among the findings are:
While pasture-raised, organic meat is more expensive, so is open-heart, coronary angioplasty, coronary artery bypass and heart valve replacement surgery. Eating pasture-raised, organic meat is also less painful and has no recovery time. In addition to pasture-raised, grass-fed meats, your choice of cooking oil makes a difference in your heart's health. Using refined corn, soybean, sunflower, canola and safflower oils, increases your intake of Omega 6-rich, inflammatory polyunsaturated fats. Instead, choose extra-virgin, cold-pressed, organic coconut oil, extra-virgin, cold-pressed, organic olive oil or avocado oil which are anti-inflammatory and may help with improving your cholesterol panel. If you want to be even more health conscious, get your Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs—Omega oils) from Nature's primary whole food source, algae. Algae are the primary source of all Omega oils in our food chain. Fish- and plant-derived oil supplements are secondary and are subject to going rancid. Fish concentrate their essential fatty acids from the algae in the water. Cut out the middleman and all these inefficiencies and disadvantages with our whole superfood, bio-algae concentrates products (BioPreparation for pets and BioSuperfood for people) that are rich in ALL the Essential Fatty Acids (EFA): the "good fats that heal," including but not limited to Omega 3, 6, 9, ALAs (Alpha-Linolenic Acids), DGLA (Dihomogamma-Linolenic Acid), DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), and rare the GLA (its high gamma linoleic acid content is similar to early mother's milk) and more essential fatty acids. Uncover more holistic secrets in our previous newsletter, Best Source for Omega Oils Is Not Fish. The choice is yours. Do you want to wait for heart symptoms to show up or blow up? Or do you want to be holistically proactive, rather than medically reactive, by changing your diet and lifestyle now?
