The pet food recalls continue. The FDA has expanded its investigation of the
elevated levels of Vitamin D in dry dog foods, which can be toxic and cause
serious health problems. Currently, there are eight brands and twelve
different diets that have been recalled. The FDA found an alarming 70 times
the intended amount of vitamin D. To learn more about this recall, please

Life's Abundance pet food is affected by this recall.
The best "wholistic" suggestion to prevent
danger to your pet is -- STOP feeding dry kibble dog food. In our
"wholistic" opinion, dry kibble dog food is the least nutritious form of
food to feed a carnivore. Furthermore, a majority of all pet food recalls is
with dry food. Canned food, freeze-dried food and raw food have a much lower

February is National Pet Dental
Health Month. We all know we should clean our pet's teeth just
like we clean our own,
with daily brushing and at least annual dental checkups. If you notice
"doggy breath" in your dog, this is a sign your dog is suffering from
periodontal disease—it is not normal for healthy dogs to have bad
breath, despite the many jokes about this. Please see a vet for proper
treatment. How did Nature design animals in the wild to get their teeth
cleaned? Nature's method is by gnawing on raw meaty bones, getting algae
in their diet and other natural means.
When wild animals kill prey, they not only
eat the organs and flesh of their kill but also gnaw on the raw meaty
bones.
The scraping of their teeth against the bones of their prey is the #1
way wild animals get their teeth cleaned. Holistic vets state that
feeding whole raw bones to clean our pet's teeth will greatly reduce the
incidence of gum disease and the need for professional teeth cleaning.
Make sure you are giving them raw and not cooked bones, which can
splinter. Also make sure you feed the appropriate size bone to your
specific dog breed. Giving too small a bone to a big dog can lead to
choking, when small bone pieces break off. Despite what the advertising
says, according to some holistic vets, dry kibble is not effective in
cleaning our pets' teeth any more than mint-flavored cookies or pretzels

A second way Nature meant for wild animals
to keep their teeth clean is by providing algae in the soil, water and
on
plants.
When wild animals get this algae it helps to maintain the proper pH
level in their mouth cavity, which works as a natural protective barrier
that inhibits the development and growth of E.coli, Streptococcus and
other harmful bacteria. Dry kibble, with its high carbohydrate and sugar
content, make our pet's mouth more acidic, thereby encouraging more
bacteria to grow and may even promote eating away the enamel that
protect our pet's teeth. Algae naturally contain over 4,000 live
enzymes, which may inhibit bacteria growth on animals' teeth. Bio-algae concentrates (BAC)
are alkaline food, which mean they counter acidic foods and help raise
the pH level towards the alkaline side of the scale. This, in turn,
promotes increased bone mass (since the body doesn't have to sacrifice
calcium from the bones to balances its pH), and vastly improved
metabolic functions. This is especially good news for senior pets.
Consuming more alkaline foods has been strongly linked with improved immune system,
mental function, kidney
function, and higher levels of energy, among other important benefits in
